Youth
Program
The Extreme
Dancesport Studio in Cambridge, MA is proud to
announce the creation of a youth after school
program. For years we have been one of the top
providers of ballroom dance instruction for adults
and young people in the greater Boston area. Now,
recognizing the growing popularity of ballroom
among young people and the great social and
intellectual benefits it can offer those who
participate in it, we are excited to offer group
instruction tailored to children and young adults.
Our goal is to expose young people of all ages and
backgrounds to this enriching activity. Below you
will find a comprehensive outline of this wonderful
program.
Why
Ballroom?
Reason #1
Many after school sports nurture only the physical needs of young people, while other programs address only the academic. However, Ballroom dance instruction provides, exercise, intellectual stimulation and teaches important social skills.

Reason #5
Finally, ballroom dance is fun! Try sitting still during a Foxtrot by Frank Sinatra, a Cha-Cha by Della Reese, or a number by one of Cuba's best salsa bands. We give young people a way to move and express themselves in a constructive and elegant way that is never boring!

Reason #4
Ballroom dance also teaches children to interact with one another with courtesy and respect. Young men learn to respect women and understand that, while they may be leading the dance, dancing together successfully is a team effort. Students learn communication skills and learn to interact comfortably with the opposite sex during a time in their lives when this is sometimes very difficult! Most importantly, ballroom dancing teaches the importance of cooperation and respect for the physical and emotional boundaries of others.

Reason #3
Ballroom Dance is also intellectually demanding. With 4 styles encompassing 19 dances, mastery can take a lifetime. Each dance has a complex list of required steps and each step has 75 years of technique behind it. We require students to study the material provided to prepare for their classes. Ballroom dance challenges young people to learn a new skill and expand their understanding of music and world cultures.

Reason #2
Dancesport, or competitive ballroom dancing, is as physically demanding as soccer, swimming, or running. It teaches coordination, increases stamina and promotes a healthy body image. While some traditional dance instruction requires that students fit a particular body type, ballroom dancers come in all shapes and sizes. Our classes create healthy bodies and encourage a healthy lifestyle.
